Films of all genres with a maximum running time of 30 minutes and not older than January 2026 can be submitted submitted via Shortfilmdepot and Filmfreeway to our International Competition and German Competition. For the Junges Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg Mo&Friese and the Triple Axel Competition, we accept films produced after January 2025.
Films for the Triple Axel Competition must not exceed three minutes and need to deal with the theme "POP“. POP is a bubble about to burst, a chart-topping earworm, popcorn jumping in the pan, an idea that suddenly pops into your head. Loud and glossy or tiny and quiet – take it literally, take it sideways, just make it pop! In this competition, it's a matter of getting a spin on a given theme in no more than three minutes. Whoever manages to do this goes into the race for the audience's prize and 1.000 € in a legendary night.
The Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg awards prizes worth a total of €15,500. The International Jury presents the Hamburg Short Film Award (€3,000) and the Deframed Award (€2,000), which goes to a film that engages with reality in a poetic, formal, analytical and unconventional way, boldly ignoring all the rules. The jury also nominates a European short film for the European Film Awards. The Kodak Short Film Award honours the best analogue film in the International and German Competition. The Semra Ertan Short Film Award (€1,500) is presented to a film in the German Competition. The German Film Critics Association presents its award to a film in the International Competition. The winning film of the ARTE Short Film Award will be acquired by ARTE Kurzschluss, the TV format dedicated exclusively to short films. The audience chooses the winner of the Triple Axel Award (€1,000) during the festival's most legendary nights. The Mo&Friese prizes are worth a total of €3,000 and include the European Children’s Film Association (ECFA) Short Film Award. Click herefor the submission guidelines.

Junges Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg - MO&FRIESE
The Junges Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg - MO&FRIESE is one of the very few film festivals for a young audience that is exclusively dedicated to short film. MO&FRIESE awards prizes worth a total of 3.000 €. In addition, an international Jury (containing of ECFA members) is choosing a short film for the ECFA Short Film Award.
