International & German Competition
Films of all genres with a maximum running time of 30 minutes and not older than January 2025 can be submitted submitted via Shortfilmdepot and Filmfreeway to our International Competition and German Competition. For the Junges Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg - Mo&Friese and the Triple Axel Competition, we accept films produced after January 2024. Filme for the Triple Axel Competition must not exceed three minutes and need to deal with the theme "Three“. All good things come in threes. Show us your cinematic exploration of threeness, your version of The Three at the Gas Station, or The Mysterious Three ???. Even three gins seem appropriate. Maybe it’s simply better as a trio than alone, just the three of us. In this competition, it's a matter of getting a spin on a given theme in no more than three minutes. Whoever manages to do this goes into the race for the audience's prize and 1.000 € in a legendary night.
Altogether, the festival awards prizes worth € 15.500. The Jury of the International Competition nominates one European film for the European Film Awards. The Hamburg Short Film Award of the German Film Critics, presented by the Association of German Film Critics, is awarded to a film from the German Competition. The Kodak Film Award for Best Analog Film is presented to filmmakers in the German or International Competition.
Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg is a qualifying festival for the British BAFTA Awards as well as the BIFA (British Independent Film Awards).
