Pilsen – Chicago, vor der Gentrifizierung: Unsere Protagonistin ist schwanger von einem Austauschstudenten mit zu mächtigem Kopf. Die Angst vor dem Babyschädel ist gewaltig und so entschließt sie sich zu einer Abtreibung. Keine große Lebensentscheidung ohne Party, also wird es stürmisch in der Wohnung; mit katholischen »Gangbangern«, verlebten Ska-Musikern, »fake ass hoes« mit übler »étiquette«, Bettwanzen und »gay but dirty«-Mitbewohnern. Regisseurin Julia Mellen erzählt aus ihrem Leben – larger-than-life, casually extrovertiert, mit ihrer Psyche tanzend, urban ungezogen, das narzisstische Jetzt nonchalant reflektierend. Abortion Party ist ein campy, jedoch viszerales, authentisches, gesellschaftszerberstendes Energiebündel; eine ehrliche Konfrontation mit dem Leben ohne doppelten Boden, und exzellentes »Dekorum« für die Festivität des Kinos. No major life decision is complete without a party, so things get wild in the flat; with Catholic »gangbangers,« washed-up ska musicians, »fake ass hoes« with terrible »étiquette«, bedbugs and »gay but dirty« flatmates. Director Julia Mellen tells a story from her own life – larger-than-life, casually extroverted, dancing with her psyche, urban and unruly, nonchalantly reflecting on the narcissistic present. Abortion Party is a campy yet visceral, authentic, society-shattering bundle of energy; an honest confrontation with life without a safety net, and excellent »decorum« for the festivities of cinema.
