Lesekreis: »Mit Männern leben — Überlegungen zum Pelicot-Prozess«

Reading Circle: »Living with Men – Reflections on the Pelicot Trial«

Post Studio Alte Post

For nearly a decade, Gisèle Pelicot was repeatedly drugged and raped by her then-husband Dominique, who also invited over 70 men to rape her while she was unconscious. These acts were documented in video recordings, and the subsequent public trial demonstrated that even the most meticulous and precise evidence does not automatically result in the acknowledgement of sexualised violence. Instead, efforts to shift responsibility and protect perpetrators predominate. In her book »Living with Men – Reflections on the Pelicot Trial«, philosopher Manon Garcia analyses gender-specific violence and its roots in society. The central question that runs through this work – how a life with men can be possible in light of this reality – is embedded in a critical examination of perpetrators and their accomplices, as well as the mechanisms that normalise such structures.

In this reading circle, we will discuss excerpts from Garcia's book. All interested individuals are welcome, and no prior knowledge is necessary. The focus is on exchange and learning together, not on processing personal trauma. Please be aware of and respect your boundaries.
