Ohne ersichtlichen Grund weichen die Tauben von ihrem instinktiven Flugverhalten ab, um sich für einige Augenblicke im freien Fall rückwärts zu überschlagen. Zurückgekehrt in ihre Taubenschläge in Compton (L.A.) finden sie Obhut in den sanften Händen ihrer Züchter:innen. Hinter der Oberfläche einer sentimentalen Mensch-Tier-Beziehung schillert in Yalda Afsahs Arbeit SSRC (Secret Society Roller Club), die perfide Mechanik von Dressur und Domestikation.
Men are looking raptly up to the sky, their hands held up to block out the dazzling sun; a swarm of doves is floating weightlessly through the air. Without any apparent reason, the doves deviate from their instinctive flight pattern and for a few moments, they summersault backward in free fall. Back in their dove cote in Compton, Los Angeles, they find shelter in the gentle hands of their breeders. In Yalda Afsah’s work SSRC (Secret Society Roller Club), the perfidious mechanics of training and domestication shine through the surface of a sentimental relationship between man and animal.
